• 5.0 out of 5 stars from Roger Dowd -- Fantastic resource for parents and educators of gifted students! : As a director of a large school district with over 11,000 identified gifted students, I found this book to be a tremendous resource for educators of intermediate gifted learners. There are a variety of engaging activities for students that not only develop key social-emotional skills, but also vocabulary, literacy and critical thinking skills. Hess uses a variety of resources and strategies, from bibliotherapy to socratic discussions, with prompts designed to provoke meaningful discussions, to lacing the classroom environment with “breadcrumbs” that invite students to reflect on their social-emotional learning. Key topics like empathy, perfectionism, resilience and identity are addressed, with lessons geared toward NAGC (National Association for Gifted Children) standards. I reviewed this with one of our lead GT counselors, and we both found the book to be a wealth of activities and resources that will inspire creativity and affective growth in both students and educators!
